DJ Mag finally released their Top 100 DJs list (Powered by 7UP) at the Amsterdam Music Festival this past week, and it’s causing quite the stir in the EDM community.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike surpassed Hardwell for the No. 1 slot this year, and they couldn’t be more excited. It’s the first time a duo has won the annual poll, and the Belgian brothers are sharing their absolute gratitude to their fans. Commenting on the award, the two said, “Thank you so much! Since day one we’ve put every bit of energy and time we can into our music and our shows in order to give the fans the greatest experience any DJ could offer. So it’s such an incredible honor to recieve this award knowing it’s from the guys that matter most to us.”
They were succeeded in the top 10 by Hardwell (2), Martin Garrix (3), Armin van Buuren (4), Tiesto (5), David Guetta (6), Avicii (7), Afrojack (8), Skrillex (9), and Steve Aoki (10). Calvin Harris, the world’s highest-paid DJ according to Forbes, fell just outside of the 10 at No. 11.
Many artists have shown their disdain for DJ Mag’s undoubtedly flawed system however, including Axwell’s speech at AMF before their set.
Kaskade decided to broadcast his anger through Twitter, having an all-out back and forth battle with DJ Mag.
