If you’ve been thinking that it’s been far too long since Santigold’s last album, then brace yourself for some good news: Santigold will be dropping her long-awaited third album in just two months. Santigold’s last album, Master of My Make-Believe, was released in 2012. The sophomore album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, a first for Santigold but we suspect it won’t be her last.

Earlier this week while on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, the Philadelphia-born artist premiered her new upbeat single off the upcoming album, “Can’t Get Enough of Myself,” featuring B.C. Santigold, born Santi White, also announced that her third album, entitled 99¢, due out in January 2016.

So what’s with the title, 99¢? Santigold explained that the record cover features herself, shrink-wrapped in a bag, surrounded by various tchotchkes from her life. Shot by photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi, the colors and the imagery are striking: as the salmon pink background borders the image, various hues of the rainbow scatter across the image, including assorted colorful instruments, gold Crocs, and a sprawled Santigold donning a lively forest green crop top, a flared dark skirt with white lines, and blood orange oxfords. A bright yellow sticker labeled “99¢” is pasted on the top left side of the makeshift Ziploc bag.

As Santigold mentioned to Zane Lowe, “Everything is a product, at this point, including people, and relationships. And everything’s about marketing products. So, I’m a product.” Santigold continued to elaborate, “Also, everything is undervalued. So I thought, 99 cents was a good price for me and all my hard work.”

Santigold’s third studio album, 99¢, will be released on January 22 via Atlantic.
