It seems we all celebrated EDC’s zero-death toll too soon. Tragically, one woman’s death was overlooked in all the fanfare, and just one fallen festival-goer is still one too many.

The woman’s identity is unconfirmed but we know she was a San Diego resident, and only 20 years old. She collapsed and suffered a seizure the Monday morning following the festival’s weekend events, as she and her friends awaited the shuttle to take them away from the grounds and back to the world. Festival traffic leaving the venue was so thick that the ambulances were unable to reach her before it was too late. By the time she arrived at the hospital, her fever had already reached 110 degrees. She was pronounced dead by Wednesday.

John Perez, a close family friend, shared his frustration over the media’s convenient oversight of this situation: “You read it in the paper that everything went well and there were no deaths, but it’s not true. I’m mad. I’m very angry.”

When asked for a comment, Insomniac released this statement to the public: “Our sincerest thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of the guest who passed away after attending the festival. While the cause of this tragedy has not yet been determined, we ask everyone to keep her loved ones in their prayers during this time of grieving.”
