Grammy nominated British DJ Mark Lewis was arrested for alleged drug smuggling in South Korea, police said Thursday. Lewis, 52, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005 in the category of Best Electronic/Dance Album for “I Found U.”
Lewis was seen on video at Incheon International Airport with a water bottle containing 3.78 liters of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), also known as the date rape drug. The footage shows him at a customs checkpoint with the alleged 1.5-liter drug-filled bottle.
The value of GHB in his possession was worth approximately $336,148 – enough for 1,000 doses. Police are claiming there have been four attempts by Lewis, between January and June, to bring the drug into the country. According to police, a chief at a Korean pharmaceutical company and his twin brother funded the DJ’s trip to Korea.
Lewis said he did not know the bottle was filled with drugs, and is denying all claims.
