With a huge new single now out and ready for fans to sink their teeth into, we got hold of the multi-talented Helena Legend for a chat about it, and to find out what else she has going on right now.

Did you have fun making “The Giant”? What originally inspired it?

I actually started working on “The Giant” earlier on in 2015 during the period I was really vibing on big emotional electro tracks. So just some of the stuff I was into at that time inspired it. Sounds change very quickly and a lot and my personal tastes on my tracks are forever changing also. But this is where my head was at during the time of its creation.

You’ve grown an incredible fan base. How have they all reacted to the new single?

The reaction has been very positive which is great. Everyone has different tastes, so musically some will love this one more than others and vice versa. But overall I am happy with the reaction to it.

You recently remixed Calvin Harris & Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For” – did you know as soon as you heard the track you wanted to put your own spin on it?

I actually knew the very first time I heard it. I text my manager Jon with: “I want to remix the new Calvin / RiRi single! It’s so dope!” I love the vocal and I wanted a tougher version that I could play in my sets. I actually made a mash up of it first using a Hardwell track, then off the back of that I went about making my own remix.

We caught a bit of one your live shows recently – your energy is insane! What do you do to get pumped to DJ?

Thank you! I always try to deliver good energy in my sets – I don’t play by genres, I play tracks I love, regardless of genre. If I’m feeling the tracks then it’s going to be real for the crowd too. Touring can be tiring and it’s not always easy to just ‘turn it on’ and be pumped and excited, especially when you might be running on no sleep.. but if it’s a great crowd, then you run on adrenaline. If the crowd is not so great, I might have a few shots of tequila to put me into the zone to push through.

What has been your most memorable festival appearance this year so far?

I played Storm festival in China this year which was incredible, I love playing in Asia. I’m excited to be invited back to play two more Storm festivals including Shanghai before the year is out.

What are a couple of goals you’d like to achieve in the next few years?

I have my sights set on a Top 20 Billboard charting track. I’m currently working on my first EP which is in a new direction for me as a producer, so I’m looking forward to seeing what new things come the next few years. I would also love a headline set on main stage at EDC, that’s on my list too 🙂
