As easy as life is when you can stream music effortlessly with platforms like Spotify, they may have just made life a lot harder.
Over 100 million individuals use Spotify as their music streaming platform of choice, and roughly 60 million of those users utilize the free service Spotify offers. However, it has been discovered that the free version has been pushing malware to various operating systems via one of their advertisements. The company responded about the problem, noting:
“We’ve identified an issue where a small number of users were experiencing a problem with questionable website pop-ups in their default browsers as a result of an isolated issue with an ad on our Free tier. We have now identified the source of the problem and have shut it down.”
Though the problem was quickly handled, it’s still a risk users will need to keep in mind as they move forward with using the platform.
