Steve Aoki decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of My Chemical Romance’s ‘The Black Parade’ album in an interesting way. Aoki, Dim Mak label head, remixed the hit 2006 single “Welcome to The Black Parade,” mixing Gerard Way’s haunting vocals with Aoki’s iconic electronic influence.

As if the remix wasn’t enough, Aoki and Way celebrated Aoki’s birthday (November 20th) together with a battle in the multiplayer shooting game Overwatch. The stream took place on Twitch, the world’s premier online live gaming portal. The winner received $10,000 to donate to a charity of their choosing.

‘The Black Parade’ is still noted as one of the most influential albums in millennial rock music. NME Magazine praised the album, calling it “The Sgt Pepper of the Emo Generation,” as it reached #1 on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart in 2006. The LP then became certified Platinum and sold over 1,000,000 copies.

Steve Aoki is no stranger to rock and roll. He has previously reworked Blink-182’s “Bored to Death” and worked with bands like Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, and Empire of the Sun’s Luke Steele. Aoki also has a Netflix original documentary, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, and recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of Dim Mak by throwing events in over 20 global hotspots throughout 2016.
