In honor of Valentine’s Day, I invite you to live vicariously with me through these relationship #GOALS. The following power couples exhibit admirable strength and love through their ability to work alongside a partner in one of the most demanding industries. Take a look at some of the music industry’s most influential couples that we’re swooning over this year below.

“Working with my wife Janette is great. We share the same interest in terms of driving forward the business and are able to be closer as a couple because of it. There are times when I can probably be difficult and, in general it is difficult at times working with your partner but I would have to say that 99% of the time, it is amazing and really productive.” – Jorge Brea

“When we first decided to work together I was a bit concerned on how it would affect our marriage since we where newly weds. But I have to say that I love working together! I think we compliment ourselves well and give each other balance. He’ s the big idea guy and I help communicate his vision through our marketing and branding.” – Janette Berrios

Ida Engberg and Adam Beyer

This techno power couple can be seen at festivals and warehouses all across the country. Beyer is a Stockholm-based DJ/producer and could be considered one of the leading faces of the underground scene. He can be caught at one of Berlin’s most exclusive nightclubs, Berghain, with his wife Ida Engberg. Ida began her career at 18 when she filled in for another DJ and secured a residency at a Swedish nightclub. The two can be found smashing back-to-back sets together, or releasing tunes under Beyer’s label, Drumcode Records.

Alex Rouk and Nina Marcopolo of Sonika Music

Sonika Music is the demonstration of independence of Alex Rouk and Nina Marcopolo, two Venezuelan DJ/producers who, a long time ago, fell in love with music and then, music made them fall in love with each other.

The decision to create the label, now based in Ibiza, Spain, began in Toronto, Canada in 2013 when both, attracted by the typical sounds of electronic music, decided to work together to create a record label that allowed them to grow and develop both musically and professionally, as he is an Audio Engineer and DJ/producer of techno, and she is a Lawyer with a Post-Graduate Degree in Marketing and a DJ/producer of progressive house.

“She’s the boss and everyone knows it” says Alex. “He’s the brain and he truly knows what he wants and how to get it ” replies Nina.

Both are now dedicated full time to the music business. Canada was only the beginning of a road full of obstacles turned into challenges, significant losses of money turned into experiences to learn and grow and the finding of a reality that only a few come to know in the music business, because only a few risk all their goods, comfort and style for pursuing a dream.

“But we have achieved all this just because we were always united and in love, although a couple of times I had to sleep on the sofa and buy a rose to ask for forgiveness” Alex confesses. “The secret of working successfully with your partner is not to see him as your partner but as a co-worker (during office hours). After office, you can quietly take revenge on everything he did during the day and at least expect him to take you out for dinner. Respect and love can carry on any business…” concludes Nina.

Faust and Shortee of Urban Assault (Heavy Artillery Recordings)

Self-proclaimed as the original Bonnie & Clyde of multi-genre turntablist EDM, Urban Assault (aka Faust & Shortee) have been a powerhouse in the DJ/production world for the last two decades, electrifying audiences on a global scale. Specializing in the grimy beats & filthy bass line genres of dubstep, drum & bass, drumstep, trap, glitch hop and electro house, this dynamic duo continues to awe masses worldwide both in the studio & on stage complete with live 4-turntable DJ trick sets scratched to perfection.

Ranked as one of the top Turntablists in the world by SPIN Magazine, Faust released the first turntablist album in history, the critically lauded Man Or Myth and continues to push the boundaries of his production today in various genres. Shortee is acknowledged as one of the most diverse, technically skilled female DJs in the world, described as “The World’s Premier Female DJ” by the Grammy Foundation and named “Queen of the Scratch World” by DJ Times.

Both were featured in the award-winning documentary “SCRATCH” (Palm Pictures) marking their historical contribution to the art of DJing and Turntablism. Together their solo & team albums have earned them critical acclaim in major publications like SPIN, URB, Remix, Knowledge, ATM, DJ Times, Rolling Stone etc., while their music is featured on networks such as MTV, NBC, CNN, HBO, ESPN and more.

In addition to rocking stages globally, Urban Assault are constantly in the studio producing music for release on various record labels as well as their own imprints. They’re the CEOs of several multi-genre labels: Heavy Artillery Recordings, 5 Star Records, Arkade Records, and DNA.

Whether they appear as ‘Faust & Shortee’ or disguised as the grimy “Urban Assault”, the bass line is always front and center. Their ambitious schedule shows no signs of letting up as they continue to bang out killer beats in the studio and drop devastating bass on stages worldwide.
