It doesn’t take long for Edo Messina’s “Crateca” to take you into its groove. The Italian producer’s Sonika Music debut is deep and powerful as its minimal techno rhythm emerges from a take-off of indiscernible whispers. Clocking in at seven minutes, Messina patiently builds drama by adding layers of industrial percussive elements to distorted kicks, evoking sounds from veterans such as Matrixxman and Marco Bailey. “Crateca” leaves us appetized for more, and we can’t wait to see a mix, a collaboration, or a full-length release from this budding musician. Stream “Crateca” below. It is also available for free download.
It’s hard to believe that Messina is still a newcomer within the techno sphere: he’s only 20 years old. From a young age he enshrouded his life with music, beginning his studies on the Italian island of Ischia, where he practiced classical guitar and piano. He picked up DJing at age 12, and just three years later, he scored his first recording contract with Luca Ricci’s Aenaria Recordings.
“Crateca” is just one of three tracks on Messina’s Docky EP, released today. Docky is available on Beatport.
