House of Yes in Brooklyn and U Street Music Hall in Washington, D.C. have canceled Icelandic techno artist Bjarki’s upcoming shows over anti-trans comments.
Bjarki is part of Nina Kraviz’s Trip label and has recently started his own label bbbbbb. Trans artist Octa Octa had a screenshot of the label’s latest Instagram caption, which received many anti-trans comments. Bjarki’s label posted “better to make it as a Dj to be a she than a he, She-man!”
The now-deleted comment is a surprise considering one of Bjarki’s own artists is transgender.
Bjarki has since made a status on his Facebook, claiming that it was someone on his team that wrote the original comment. He apologized to his fans and the LGBTQ community.
Bjarki has also canceled his upcoming tour.
