Alice Glass, former singer of the band Crystal Castles, released a statement about why she suddenly left the group in 2014:
“The momentum that’s been created recently by the many courageous women who have opened up about their own stories has inspired me to finally be more direct, at whatever cost. This is for my own recovery, for the other women who have been, are currently, or may be in a similar situation with the man who abused me for years, and for those in abusive relationships who are looking to stand up and speak out.”
Glass continues, “I met ‘Ethan Kath’ (Claudio Palmieri) when I was in the 10th grade. The first time he took advantage of me was when I was around 15. He forced me to have sex with him or, he said, I wouldn’t be allowed to be in the band anymore.”
Alice’s full statement is both mentally and physically graphic. You can read the full statement on her website.
An attorney writing on behalf of Ethan Kath sent Pitchfork a response: “I am outraged and hurt by the recent statements made by Alice about me and our prior relationship,” he said. “Her story is pure fiction and I am consulting my lawyers as to my legal options. Fortunately, there are many witnesses who can and will confirm that I was never abusive to Alice.”
As of now, there has been no legal action on either side.
If allegations are true, this is utterly heinous and unacceptable. We commend Alice’s bravery (and all women for that matter) to come out and tell their story to the world. This must end.
