It’s never a bad time for rock/dance crossovers, and delivering a killer remix of Papa Roach’s new track “Periscope” is EMRSV, who takes everything we love about the track and turns it into a future bass stunner.
“Periscope” featuring Skylar Grey hits all of the notes; it’s dark, emotional and unabashedly heavy. Contributing vocalist Skylar Grey is no stranger to massive collaborations, having worked with artists like David Guetta, Kaskade and more, but hearing her in a heavier soundscape is really powerful. Her voice contrasts Jacoby Shaddix’s sonorous notes in a way that just tugs at the heartstrings. The ability to recognize the brilliant components of the track is what makes EMRSV so successful in their remix.
Taking hold of Shaddix’s vocals to open the remix proves to be quite demanding and by combining them with delicate melodies and elegant snaps before bursting into a sea of future bass chords and ethereal synths, EMRSV gives the track entirely new life. Subtle vocal touchings add a strong depth, while the transition into Skylar Grey’s verse is purely effortless.
It’s difficult to take rock music and transform it into a light-hearted dance rendition, but EMRSV came out victorious today. Take a listen to the Orange County-based duo’s remix of “Periscope,” out now, below.
