The British DJ/producer, who in Flux Pavilion’s very own words “is the inspiration behind the label,” made his debut with the massive single “Hot.” The track is now one of five cuts on his new extended play.
Rusko, aka Chris Mercer, broke out of Leeds with frequent collaborator Caspa back in 2007 with the seminal FabricLive.37 mix. It cemented the pair as flag bearers of the contemporary dubstep sound that went on to dominate the world. Has Made 5 More Songs takes his classic stylings and flips them upside down for something that is retro, fresh and inspiring.
The EP kicks off with gritty masterpiece “Walalangaleng,” a massive collaborative effort from Dangerous, Fraksure and Simskai. We see him explore a deep and explorative angle with “High” before we’re brought back to “Hot.” Next up, “Mind the Gap” offers reggae-inspired rhythms, time-honored beat scratches and a major wub factor. Finally, he closes out with the laid-back drum and bass heater “Emotional” featuring Guyanese/Indian/Canadian vocalist Anjulie who has become known in recent years for her work to help end violence across the world.
Has Made 5 More Songs follows a three-week run from Rusko, in which he sold out over 95% of shows. Now, we have begun to see his name pop up on just about every major music festival. Rusko wears his heart on his sleeve as he enters 2018 with a vengeance.
