A stellar lineup took to Brooklyn’s top-tier Avant Gardner venue for an incredible end-of-year celebration.

RL Grime, Boombox Cartel, K?d, Kittens and XCRPT all took to the stage for a night filled with trap anthems, midtempo bangers and more. Unfortunately, due to my horrendous time management, I missed what was likely a very proper set from Kittens. The LA-based DJ/producer recently made her solo production debut with the Zanon & On EP, showcasing her perfect blend of worldly hip-hop and trap sounds. Having joined RL Grime on his last NYC tour stop as support for his Nova Tour, it was only right to have her kick off the night.

Luckily, I got there just in time for K?d who ended up having my favorite performance of the night. The mysterious producer skyrocketed to fame in 2016 and has continued to excel with an electro-inspired new age sound ever since. His set offered an unexpected blend of experimental bass, midtempo, dubstep and more. As someone who might have expected more of a linear set, K?d left me incredibly surprised with a diverse and stellar show. By now, the crowd was fully enthralled.

Boombox Cartel took the stage for an hour’s worth of trap, future bass, hip-hop, dubstep and more. His ability to keep things interesting, but smooth is monumental. His set was as hot as the Tabasco bottle on his shirt, and the crowd undoubtedly agreed. If you’re ever in the need for a fun and high-energy set, Boombox Cartel will deliver.

Finally, RL Grime took the elevated stage for his hour-and-15-minute performance. The trap mainstay ran through the majority of his Nova album along with official remixes from ODEA, K?d and more. His set was brilliantly curated and a perfect way to end 2018 on a high note. An RL Grime set on his own is always impeccable, but adding an incredible audio/visual layer along with a magnificent venue made the night unforgettable.

2018 was full of ups and downs, but ending it with RL Grime, Boombox Cartel, K?d and more was the perfect way to end it on a positive note.
