These days, if you want to find out who’s next in dance music, Australia is a good place to begin your search. Some of the most promising up-and-comers from down under have been heating up the underground, and now the latest export Shivaji has just proven again why Australia is where it’s at.
The young Sydney native is coming in hot in 2019 with his brand new single “Villain,” a short-but-sweet 2-minute banger that lives up to its name. Opening with a truly cinematic buildup that will leave you on your toes, the track then opens up with a ferocious drop with a bass that booms under animalistic synths. “Some of the lead growls remind me of what a dinosaur might sound like. The dinosaur is supposed to be an incomplete metaphor to represent a villain, attempting to encapsulate fear, power, and awe,” says Shivaji.
Shivaji’s music has already been catching the ears of some of the best of the best, with tracks supported by Bassnectar, Ookay, NGHTMRE, and QUIX, to name a few. “Villain” proves that Shivaji’s career trajectory is only going up from here, and I can’t wait to see what he brings next.
