UZ and Hucci’s Oliver O’Neill dropped their much-needed number “Awakening” on Quality Goods Records today. This release shakes trap music by the shoulders with its unorthodox approach towards a subgenre historically knee deep in aggression.
Hucci and UZ’s unpredictable use of taunting piano chords in addition to twinkly-sounding gradual rises in pitch, lighten their piece. Calculated hi-hat rolls, grimy snares and heavy sub-bass layered kick drums give “Awakening” bite while still epitomizing Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe’s, a pioneer of modern architecture, phrase “less is more.”
“Awakening” is “the collaboration that every trap head has been waiting for,” said UZ.
