Not one to shy away from delving into new genres, Diplo has launched his second label, Higher Ground. Dedicated to all types of house music, the imprint will be shining a light on up-and-coming artists and well-known acts ranging from tech house to lo-fi all the way to afro house.
“House is where it all came from. Everything we know and love as dance music today started with the masters in Chicago and Detroit almost forty years ago,” Diplo says of the new venture. “The genre has always been incredibly important to me, and Higher Ground is our homage to the legends and opportunity to champion new sounds and artists from around the world pushing the genre forward.”
Named after Diplo’s recent deep-house influenced EP, Higher Ground’s debut release is a double-sided EP by the Brookyln-based, tech-house duo Walker & Royce called “Rave Grave.” The label will feature releases by artists like Lisbon-born Angola house pioneer DJEFF, the enigmatic new duo SIDEPIECE, French multi-genre DJ & producer Born Dirty, German melodic/tribal house duo Andhim, Diplo himself and more.
With Mad Decent as the first label he started in 2016, Diplo is no stranger to growing a collective of artists and spotting unique talent as he enters his deeper venture into the house scene.
Listen to “Rave Grave” out on streaming platforms September 4th via Higher Ground.
